Math Homework Help... on angles?

First Part: The latitude of New York City is 40 degrees and 45 minutes. Find the velocity of New York in space due to the rotation of the earth on its axis. For this problem use 4000 miles for the earth's radius.

Second Part: How high must one be above the earth's surface in order to see a point on the surface 40 miles away?

Please show work and please explain how you got it. Thanks!

For the first part, the answer is that New York isn't moving, space is moving. It's all about perspective and that question is complete bs.

The second part is better, you just make a triangle with one side being 40 and you have to figure out the height given a right angle. Just use some trig.
