ipod problem ???? pls everyone answer?

Question

i got my ipod nano 4g (16gb) 2-3 weeks back
today i was using a third party software to convert and transfer a video to my ipod (which it did)   (the software name is winavi mp4 converter)
then i opened itunes to add some music
itunes then gave me message:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod '(myname)' . Go to the summary tab in the ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory setting. "

is this because of the software i used because i have used the software many times before for my ipod and psp and never had a problem

when i go to restore it says that all media and other data will get erased
i have spent a lot of time transferring songs to iPod before
is there any other way (i dont want my songs to get deleted) as it is very time consuming

my iPod works fine only thing is that i cannot use itunes to mange media on my iPod

fr the newer ipods, there must be an icon in the My Computer under Removable Storage. Is ur ipod displayed there along with the cd/dvd drive(s)? then u can simply copy/paste all the files u need to back up from the ipod..

If not, u'll have to reset it to factory settings. The most likely cause might be the use of 3rd party softwares. Such a thing is not recommended for ipods. 

There's also an option..to backup ur ipod's contents using xp's default Backup Manager(u can find it in Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Backup). Dunno how well this works though, i havn tried it.

iPod can only play mp4 or h.264 videos. so make sure your video format is right.
If your videos are not in the right format, you need to convert them. You need a professional ipod converter to help you.
