Can I use my Samsung 32" lcd tv as my computer monitor?

I've a Samsung 32" lcd tv (LA32A450) with the native resolution of 1366x768. I'm looking to use it as my computer monitor as it would be a two birds with one stone, a cost cut. Can I use the HDMI to connect it to the pc? It has a VGA PC input also. Which would look better? I'm asking this because, in a review of this tv I've read that VGA input worked better than HDMI. "With analog sources delivered via the VGA input the Samsung performed very well, resolving every detail of the 1,360x768 signal according to DisplayMate and delivering crisp, sharp text and other on-screen details. Surprisingly, HDMI tested far worse. The set didn't handle all of the detail of the source, and edges looked blockier and softer as a result." Is this true?

My main necessity is gaming, watching movies and surfing internet. Also some spreadsheet works and all. So will it be a good alternative for traditional lcd monitors?

Theoretically, HDMI and DVI are better than VGA, but not in all cases. CRT monitors use VGA, while most LCDs today use DVI or HDMI. They're both the same quality, but HDMI can also carry audio signals. Since you're using 1366x768, I recommend VGA. It will be a waste of money to use HDMI. You should only use HDMI for TVs and DVI for monitors. Only if your monitor supports more than a resolution of 1920x1080, use DVI.

    And the answer:

Yes, you can use your TV (or most TVs, for that matter) as your computer monitor, just like how you use a computer monitor. Just plug it in and you should be fine from there.

    Hi,

That looks like a newer model but i have the 32" samsung LNT3253H and I had it attached to my computer as a secondary monitor.

I had to adjust it to the right contrast and brightness. It was too dark for some movies. I think it looked alright. I wouldn't use it for gaming because i already have a 20" with resolution of 1680x1050 and i'd rather have the higher resolution.

LCD HDTVs are essentially LCD monitors with additional inputs for receiving TV signals, so yes you can absolutely use it as a monitor.

Me, I use a 52" LCD HDTV as my monitor, and it's connected to my computer using a DVI-to-HDMI cable. Works perfectly, displaying 1920x1080 resolution: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/armchairavi...

Heck, I'm never going back to a regular small computer LCD monitor after that. :-)

Yes u can use it as your pc moniter but if ure wondering about quality, its always hard to know what channels would work better. i personally use my PC input instead of HDMI because its much better at supporting the resolution (As HDMI is much better for Xbox 360, Sky+ HD and other things made to be viewed in HD)

However, its probably better if you just keep trying different inputs and seeing which works the best for your particular models.
