It's better to TRACK sales of Ammonium Nitrate.

If a guys buying 50 bags of fertilizer and he dosn't have a farm, BINGO we have a loser.

It is the fertilizer used on farms. Restrict it and see food production drop by 75% . We feed the world, without ammonia nitrate, we couldn't feed our own population, a world famine will occur, and the cost of the food available will be outrageous.

Before you say use something else for fertilizer, it is the nitrate that plants require to grow and it is also the nitrate that is explosive. A new fertilizer would still require explosive nitrate to feed the plants.

It is also used in almost all house hold cleansers. Want dirty windows?

It isn't Just Ammonium Nitrate with even a basic understanding of Chemistry you can manipulate formulae and with a little knowledge of reactivity and the products they produce you can either make Ammonium Nitrate or other explosively reactive chemicals.

I think that would be terribly impractical. If we were to restrict that then we would have to restrict other substances which could be used to make bombs and, eventually, various sorts of equipment that could be used to refine chemicals for use.

In the end we'd have to restrict everything from fuel to kitchen ware and myriad other things. It's not worth the effort, nor the cost to the tax payer or the impediment to daily life.

Just about ANYTHING when in the right hands could be used for making explosives for terrorist activities. So no.

no. terrorists are very resourceful. banning the sale of Ammonium Nitrate will only needlessly complicate things for other people using it for legit purposes.

Source(s): ammonium nitrate is fertilizer. if you had some cow poo and some chemistry knowledge, it can be refined into ammonium nitrate. Banning the sale of regular ammonium nitrate is pointless. It makes it harder for people like me using it for legit purposes to get it, and terrorists will simply get it another way. Besides, you need alot of ammonium nitrate to make a effective bomb. so much that large purchases of it would automatically draw lots of attention to the purchase and probably bring the cops to your door. A chemist or people who experiment with chemistry would need only 8 oz to 5 lbs. A bomb maker might need 50 to 500 lbs.

It's the most common ingredient in lawn fertilizer. I doubt you could restrict it.

Hey...you are right it must be restricted.

Yes , it should be restricted .
