no power to fan switch?
92 caprice- not getting power to my switch and the wires come out of the harness- if I put a jumper to the fan it runs on high and the a/c works fine- I think there is a blown relay somewhere...
the relay next to the blower and all fuses are good
I did find the (balasts wires and they all have power on both sides- of the connections

Check your fuses first, all of them, to be sure they are good and any relays of course as the points can go bad after awhile.
Most cars also have these ballast (I think that's what they're called, it's been awhile) resistor wires that regulate the fan speed depending on which switch setting you're using and if they are broken, you won't get anything. They are usually mounted from inside the engine compartment into the heating/cooling blower housing on a small pad (about 2 x 3 inches or so) by a couple of screws (the wires sit exposed on the inside of the housing, all you'll see are a couple of wires on the outside connecting to it). Also check for any disconnected connectors in the dash and near your ventilation system.
Best of luck.
The ballast wires are actually resistors that are fed power to one side and depending on which fan speed position is selected, will determine which resistor wire is used to supply power to the fan and the speed at which it runs. High doesn't go thru one, med-hi will go thru the one with the fewest turns, medium will go thru the one with more turns, and low will go thru the one with the most turns (if I remember right).
Since you get power thru them, then you should have power to your console switch at each of the speed positions. If not, then look for a loose or disconnected wiring harness connector (in dash, firewall, or engine compartment).
If you do have power at the switch for each position, then the wire that you need to look at is the one that completes the circuit to ground from the switch. It may have become disconnected at the switch or wiring harness connector, or the wire is broken. It is also possible that it goes to the computer which may control the A/C compressor & other engine operations once detecting that it is on (which means the computer is bad). You can try taking the switch ground wire and make a direct connection to a ground right from the switch to see what happens. It it works, maybe you could make the groung connection permanent, bypassing the original ground wire.
Good luck. Maybe your manual will show you what and where to look.

that's not that easy, i'm afraid. Even the main inexpensive capability components now have some form of fan administration circuit. If the fan is quiet in one capability furnish, that comparable fan could be loud in yet another capability furnish . . . or it might possibly not run in any respect. So that's not properly well worth the attempt to start with. yet greater importantly, you will possibly desire to in no way open up a capability furnish except you knew sufficient approximately electronics which you does not might desire to ask this question! capability components can kill you, whether they're unplugged. i'm not kidding, do not screw around interior of a capability furnish.

start by checking the fuse for that circuit, but that relay can go bad after years of use.
