The average yield (energy) of current nuclear bombs is 1MegaTon of TNT. A 1 degC rise in the temperature of the oceans, which has already happened, equals 1.358 BILLION MegaTons of TNT. The temperature is projected to go up more than 5 degrees this century. That is one bomb for every man, woman and child alive today.

I'm not worried about bombs. I'm worried about recycling.

Yes, it's pretty grim right now but there's a green sustainable movement that is slowly building up and soon there'll be a ground swell that can reverse the effects of global warming. You can only work on an individual level by doing what you can not to contribute to the problem. Instead of driving a gas guzzling car, get a less polluting one. Replace your light bulbs with energy saving ones. Be conscious of the energy you use because that is one way to become less dependent on fossil fuels. The U.S. uses more carbon based fuels than anywhere else in the world, even China, and that makes the rest of the world resent us and rightfully so. Study the problem and tell others what you've learned so you can become part of the solution instead of adding to the problem.

Oh, and NO NUKES, please. Do we have the right to add radio active material to the environment that will remain hot for hundreds of years? So far, the disposal issue hasn't been solved.

No but we should have nuclear energy as soon as possible as the oil and gas will become prohibitive in price faster than people realise. What about a situation where Russia and the Arab nations dictate how we live and our foreign policy by controlling the flow of oil and gas into Europe?

Isn't it strange that no government is making the building of energy efficient houses a legal necessity. Thicker and better insulated walls with triple glazing of smaller windows with some basic changes in design will bring about a massive reduction in energy use.

Why do we need so many lights on at night? All large buildings should be obliged to be less well lit at night when there is noone there and there is no reason for street lights to be on all the time. Movement sensors would allow lighting to come on for pedestrians and lights would stay off when noone is around.

Someone has a big monetary interest in the useage of electricity!!!

No ! i think that the use of the nukes just only for other source to replace the decreases of our petroleum. Also, the nukes weapon just make our lovely world become more worst and pollute as well. In addition, lot of money must be supply to build the nukes weapon. Therefore, i think it is an unuseful because we can provide the money to help the poor country and integrate our facilities to make our world to be more pollute.

READ MY LIPS - no country is going to give up it's nukes. It's not even worth debating, it aint gonna happen. We can only hope that those countries that do have them dont decide to blow a mushroom cloud shaped hole through the ozone and cause real global warming.

Using nuclear weapons causes 'nuclear winter', as described by Dr. Carl Sagan.

Nuclear Winter is a good way to balance Global Warming.

You're putting way too much CREDIT on the human race.

We were meant to self destruct and we will because the oil mongrels don't want you to have free solar energy and money in your pocket.

Nor do they want you to be healthy. Look at the USA. The only way they make any money down there is through war and dying people.

It's either their suicide or YOURS.

And people are stupid enough to hang themselves and say what kind of rope would you like me to use???

yeah thats what we need mass welfare, we already have that in the usa, if you have ever seen a family or really generations of familys on welfare you would know that people who live by means other than what THEY actually provide themselves , will ultimately become lazy azz* leaches and the most unproductive population on earth. look at any urban area and thats what you see.

no, nuclear energy shouldn't be used in atomic bombs & other weapons of mass destruction, instead they shud be used to generate alternative sources of energy to provide us electricity & other amenities.

When will our leaders wake up????

Look kid I vote for the Blue-D too but you've got to learn that alarmism and banging around on the fringes just don't get things done in the US democracy.

Deceit, bribery and filling up pork-barrels do.
