I challenege u! think u r a genius in physics? then answer this!?

The mercury in a barometer of cross-sectional area of 1 cm^2 stands at 75 cm(height) and the space above it is 9 cm in length.what value of air , measured at atmospheric preassure would have to be admitted into the space to cause its column of mercury to drop to 59cm?

p.s. i know the answer, if yr anwer is correct, you'll earn 10 points!

iam not sure if its correct or not!

let the volume of gas in the space above mercury be 9x1=9cm^3

and the pressure when the mercury at 75cm is 1 atm!

when the mercury at 59cm, the volume of air in the space is 25x1=25cm^3, since the total height of the barometer is 75+9=84cm and when the mercury is 59cm than the height of air is 84-59=25cm.

    using

    (initial presssure)(initial volume)=(final pressure)(final volume)

    then, 1x9=px25

final pressure of air, p=9/25 atm

so 9/25 atm pressure of air is needed to cause the mercury to drop to 59cm.

    hope iam correct!!

a million. debris contained in the ambience mirror shorter wavelength gentle at an identical time as permitting longer wavelengths (blues, violets) to pass by using. 2. confident, your eyes are closed at an identical time as your dreaming are not they? 3. It absorbs gentle. 4. Your physique regulates its inner warmth by potential of holding a funky outer temperature (which includes by potential of sweating). You being warm is your physique's warning call that its warmth regulation systems are no longer waiting to accomplish proper. 5. relies upon on the glue. some glues dry because of the fact of a chemical reaction started by potential of the oxygen contained in the air. Others artwork by potential of the evaporation of a definite chemical interior it which could no longer take place at an identical time as its interior a bottle.

This is a good question but it is more of math than physics. And physics is not about finding some answer to a question.

So please don't insult physicists by challenging them with such irrelevant questions.

The truth is that I could not solve this, and that is because I have not learnt the grammar to solve this problem.

( And please try to change your idea of a genius. It is certainly not what you think it is.)

the pressure is not what is important. it is the will of the mercury that shall decide the final outcome if this equation.
