Who else has encountered a mama grizzley bear?

As a teen, I went camping a lot with my brothers out at our friend's family farm, on a mountain in WV. One weekend his grandpa lectured us for an hour about the bears they'd seen where we camped.

The next day, picking daisies alone, I saw the cub. On two feet he came up to my waist. I started to walk away, cuz the mama must be near. Then he ran over on all fours. He was so cute!I dropped a daisy, he stood, picked it up and held it out to me. I  said, 'Im can't play with you, go away!' He reached his arms up like a baby, I picked him up. Softest fur ever, smelled so good! I fed him fruit snacks, enchanted. Then a deafening roar shook the trees, I froze. Cub got scared, hid behind me, No, I said quietly, go, shoo!Out came Mama - massive, growling, angry. I backed away, terrified. She roared again, hot wind like rotting death blew my hair, gagged me. She came forward, I didn't know what to do. Didn't want to appear to be a threat to the cub - maybe if she thought I was a cub too she wouldn't hurt me. So I dropped and curled up small, eyes closed, wailed for my mama. She chuffed and growled, telling me off. I cried 'Im sorry, I'm sorry, I want my mama!', then fell silent as she sniffed me, hot breath inches from my neck. Finally she retreated, chuffing at her cub. I peeked, she turned back and roared, then growled a clear warning. I whimpered, eyes closed, laid still for 5 mins, then ran back to camp.Has anyone else been caught by mama bear playing with her cub? What did you do?

If you’re camping, how do you legally urinate?

    Favourite answer:

Well if you aren't camping in a campsite then you aren't in public, so anywhere one would have thought.

Is anyone familiar with living in the forest?

I believe it's totally possible to

    replace eating food/water with

feeding off the Holy Spirit, so

I can go live in a tent in the forest.

I guess I have two main concerns:

    a) Do 10-degree sleeping bags

really work? Do they prevent freezing?

    b) What would happen once I turn

60, and unable to continue hiking?

Is it ok to wash BBQ grill griddle plate in a lake or no?

    Favourite answer:

No, you don't use a lake or river as a sink or bathtub. You take water out of the lake or river and use it away from from the lake or river. You dump the dirty water or soapy water on the ground well away from the lake or river. Other campers could become angry if you use the shared lake or river as your own personal kitchen sink, your own personal bathtub. That spoils things for others.

A general guideline is to ask yourself "Would it be OK if every camper was doing this?" Obviously it would be bad thing if dozens, hundreds of people were washing dishes and taking baths in the same river or lake. So it's better if everybody does NOT do that.

What’s the average fee to camp at a campground with a tent?

    Favourite answer:

Usually around $25 but like anything else the price has gone up. In June I paid

$35 at a campground in SC with only water and electricity with a small travel

trailer (18 ft) not using the sewer. I did not use a tent but probably less than my

    small trailer fee.

UK: What are some FULLY waterproof, comfortable hiking BOOTS?

Like, standing in streams and falling into deep mud waterproof.

    Also, gotta be comfortable.

With or without steel toe cap.

    Womens size 5

I don't mind price, but even the £££ ones I've seen so far have some reviews where the boots haven't been waterproof in wet grass.

The terrain will be slippery, a little rocky and hence high likelihood of ankle injuries - which is why they must be hiking *boots* with sturdy support. YET, the hikes will be day-long ones, so they must also be cushioned and comfy, without compromising on breath-ability (what's the point of being dry from the weather when your feet are swimming in sweat?)

Thank you so much, spent so long looking for the perfect boots but haven't had the opinions of any hiking pros/people who have been through a range of boots and have learnt the best type!
