  • My Dad doesn't understand the difference between an honors class and an academic?

I'm 15. My dad says colleges only look at grades. He says it doesn't matter if I'm in an honors class or not. I keep telling him that an honors class has more weight on the gpa and that they count for more, but he says I'm wrong. I can't stand it anymore. I try to take as much honors classes as I can, and I work hard to maintain my grades, yet my Dad gets upset when I get 2 B+'s (one 89 and an 87), but he doesn't get that they are in some really tough classes. I work hard and he doesn't seem to get it. I care about my grades because I want to get to college, but I think classes are just as important as grades! He looks only at grades and not at classes. We get into a huge argument everytime we discuss grades. I'm just so sick of it. I'm happy with my grades until he gets upset at me. I feel like he would rather I move down to easy academic classes if I can get higher grades... The problem is that I feel like my grade ARE good... My dad gets happy at my little sister who has straight A's (in middle school), except her classes aren't the same as mine, and I chose some of the hardest possible electives at my school (which is high school). Next year I'll be in some AP classes, and I'm afraid he's just going to tell me the same thing- that AP classes don't count any more than an academic. I hate having him tell me this because I know it's not true, and he makes me feel bad about my hard work and grades. What could I tell him so he could realize that honors/AP classes are important to colleges and that they have more weight on the gpa?

  • Hip pain from running?

I'm a freshmen and I ran crosscountry in the Fall, and am doing Indoor Track now. Most of cross country season didn't end well because my hip hurt, and so my times started dropping and I got realy frustrated. I started training really hard on my own doing speed workouts and such, but obviously it made my hip so much worse. When the season ended, I took most of the off-season without running and went to physical therapy. So the beginning of Indoor went really well, but recently this week my hip started hurting again after a speed workout. I ran the meet anyway and still tried very hard, and today which is my off-day it doesn't really hurt as much as it did before during the meet which is really wierd. The pain usually went away when I started running, and came back after. Any idea what this could be and how to prevent it?
