  • If different opinions are not valued, how anyone can talk about truth anymore?

Yahoo answers is full of people asking and answering questions where their own ignorance is only proof. Negativity and selfish way to think coming as first. Debating and understanding different opinions is something unheard of.

    Example:

    Q: Aren't you fed up...

A: ...I'm really sick of the constant lies.

It feels like people are in war. Everyone tries push their opinion above others. If different opinions are not valued, how anyone can talk about truth anymore? Doesn't that means people are not looking for truth but have decided it instead.

Where this all comes from? Is it because of media? Are people depressed and therefore seeing only bad in everything? What do you think?

  • Downscaling artifacts in red channel. Why? (Algorithms)?

When I view pictures in digital camera (Canon 125 HS) bright red color seems to be really pixelated.

    When I view Youtube video:

Example: devinsupertramp - Dubstep piano on the lake watched in 360p

    http://youtu.be/01jgYIZfHrM?t=54s&vq=medium

On bright red areas resolution is clearly half of resolution of overall video:

It becomes even more evident when viewing only red channel:

Recently this new artifact seems to be visible in many places. Before I have newer seen it.

    This is mystery for me.

  • Energy efficient electric cookers?

I started thinking of that my traditional electric stove top is inefficient.

Lots of heat is lost on sides of non insulated pan or pot and as well all energy used to heat stove is lost.

I became to thinking there must be pot which warms only inside is well insulated is cold to touch outside as bonus heats up quick and stays long warm. I assume such device would triple the efficiency of electric cooking and price of purchasing would be saved on electric costs. Are my assumptions correct? Any ideas where to buy one?

  • Are nonstop flights environment friendly?

In The Environment Equation book of Alex-Shimon Barry he says that nonstop flight is using less fuel than flight with stop at a midpoint airport because takeoff and landing consume more fuel than flight in constant altitude.

However from other sources I have read that nonstop flight consume more fuel, because they need to load double the amount of heavy fuel in plane compared to flight with one refuel stop. And flying with heavy plane consumes lots more fuel.

    What's the honest truth?

Which way is most economical and environment friendly way to fly?

  • What is security risk in using short password?

Nowadays every site seems to wanting more than "hey1" for password.

If my password were "hey1". In correctly configured web service it would still require great amount of login attempts. And would be quite slow to break if logins are limited example 20tries/day.

I understand in case someone gets direct access to server database, someone may figure out quite fast what is my password from hash. But what is the security problem with this if my password is different for every site? Isn't my data security already compromised?
