  • Rate in order from most to least favourite: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Twilight?

Some of you would have gone through about a million of these, but I'm doing one of my own now.

I absolutely HATE Twilight with all my heart, so it'll be at the bottom for me. I'm lost after that though, cause I have an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Also, try to include why you chose those particular preferences.

  • How should I deal with this?

Ok, so I'm a teen, and like all teens, I want my freedom. At least to a certain degree.

Let me start at the beginning: I am a very dedicated martial artist, and I have recently acquired a very high rank in karate, apart from practicing swordsmanship and archery. I live across the road from a school, behind which are huge open plains and fields. Recently, I acquired a bow with a very good draw weight, but the arrows go too far for me to use in my back yard. So I was considering using the fields behind the school (which is not trespassing, I've checked) for archery practice, but my parents won't allow me to do it.

They say that it's too dangerous to be out on my own, and that someone could hurt me. I'm very well aware of all that could happen to me in the street, but seriously? It's a couple of hundred metres across the road!

My parents have always been incredibly over-protective of me. They hesitate about letting me go to the movies with my friends, they won't let me walk outside even just to take the trash out in the dark, and they won't let me go walking down the street on my own!

I can understand that they're protective of me, and that they care about me, but when it starts to interfere with my martial arts, I can't allow it. I have to practice my archery in that field because there's no where else for me to practice.

I have often demanded to know why my parents don't trust me (do note the fact that I have a very high rank in karate, and can use a sword, not to mention the bow I'll be with when I'm out there) and why any random person would even think of attacking a girl who is holding a bow and a quiver of arrows.

Adults, also note that I'm considered very responsible by every one around me, careful, organized and dependable. I am most often given trustee jobs at school, such as collecting money alone, and have been chosen as Grade level leader and representative for the Student Representative Council more than twice. Some teachers have even asked for my input during class, and taken my advice seriously. I've been given the award of Role-model student several times, and I have a high grade average. So I'm trustworthy, and I wouldn't abuse my freedom.

All my friends have the freedom they want. They can go out at night, go to the movies on their own if they want to, go shopping without their mother there to supervise them, and go for long walks to meet other friends and such. It's very unfair if I can't be the same.

What can I say to my parents to let them go out to practice? How should I deal with this?

  • Does anyone else have/face this kind of discrimination?

I am not a feminist. I am not a misogynist either. I am just a female who is interested in martial arts. I first started learning to know how to defend myself, but pretty soon, I was completely caught in the web, and couldn't look back. I'm pretty good at most sports, I enjoy taking on roles of leadership, and I find myself equal with and not intimidated by the males who surround me. I also don't like wearing dresses and skirts because after so long of doing martial arts, it makes me feel vulnerable. That is, my reflexes are sort of blunted when I'm wearing a skirt, sort of. Hard to explain.

I am sick to death of people, both male and female, implying that they think I'm gay. It's true that I don't date, but I have honestly never found any women sexually attractive or arousing in the least. Also, there are guys I have met who prefer not to play sport, but to focus on their academics, who are called gay as well.

It sickens me that this sort of discrimination takes place just because an individual's interests aren't approved of. I have my own group of friends who share my interests, who are facing similar problems.

Is this society's way of trying to maintain the traditional order? I know that I'm not traditionally feminine, but that doesn't immediately make me a feminist or a homosexual.

Why is it so hard for some people to understand?

  • What would you name this book?

I have written a book about a blind girl who learns to become an archer depending on her senses of hearing, smell and her instinct. She also has special magical powers that feel the air around her to tell her where her target lies. It is based in a fictional, magical land.

I was wondering what you would name it, because, although I've thought of a couple of things, none of them have quite done it. I am trying to make it a title that sort of blends with the plot, but doesn't give too much of it away at first glance.

    All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

  • What is the best free software to capture clips from DVDs?

I really want to make a YouTube video, that actually involves video clips, but have no idea how to get my hands on these clips. I have many DVDs that I can get those clips from, but I don't know how.

So does anyone know a good* free software that will allow me to capture just a few moments of video from a DVD? Could you also tell me the instructions or give me a page with the instructions on it? I've never actually done this before, so nothing too complicated please.

Oh, and I also don't want to use programs like DVD Decrypter, where that's only the first step, then you have to bring the whole file into Windows Movie Maker to edit and create it. There has got to be an easier way.

    Thanks in advance!

  • What would you name these fictional countries?

Okay, so I'm writing a fantasy novel about a diplomat who goes to foreign land, with a plea for help from her homeland, which is being threatened by war. But when she is in the foreign country, she is captured by enemy land and so on.

I've got names for all my towns, my characters and even for spells and magic in my world. But, I have no clue of what to call my countries. I don't even know where to start! I've tried to stick to my Celtic name pattern, but that's proven incredibly hard.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for these countries? They don't have to stick to the Celtic name pattern. I just don't want them to be Tolkien wannabes. Just four or five names would be good, thanks.

P.S: the three countries I need names for are the homeland, the foreign country and the enemy land.

Thank you so much in advance!

  • Thirteenth birthday party ideas?

Ok, so I have a friend whose sister is turning thirteen very soon. We've decided to throw her a party, but we're lost on ideas. This is because she is different to most girls, and has a set of about four very close friends from her karate class who share her interests and her personality.

She is an ardent martial artist, and exceptionally talented too, and I know because I have trained her a few times in karate (yes, I do it too). She is also a very good archer, and can use staffs, too. She also enjoys reading, particularly books like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Deltora Quest, Ranger's Apprentice, The Chronicles of Narnia, and other such fantasy books, although I do know that she enjoys science-fiction, particularly through books like The Hunger Games and Alex Rider.

Any ideas that could make an interesting party for her kind of personality?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Calling all Hunger Games fans! (Concerning Mockingjay)?

    NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

Ok, so choose a team: Peeta or Gale? Tell me why you chose that team. Also, tell me your favorite character in the Hunger Games and Catching Fire and tell me why they're your favorite character. If you have any theories about what will happen in Mockingjay, then share it with me.

My favorite character in the Hunger Games is Thresh, for inexplicable reasons, but who has one seriously catchy name. My favorite character in Catching Fire is Finnick; he's kind of like the Thresh of the second book. I think that Katniss will end up with Peeta, it seems to me it's heading that way. But for some reason, I can't shake off the feeling that Haymitch will die.

  • Who believes in the character "God"?

I'm not specifying Christianity here, I'm just asking in general. I follow the practices of a religion, not specifying, but I was just wondering if you believed in a "God", believe in the Theory of Evolution or don't really know what to believe. Does your religion affect your beliefs in the Theory of Evolution and other such scientific theories?

I'm not trying to pry, I'm just curious.

  • What kind of personality/traits do you think a woman should have?

I'm just asking because I keep getting told that I'm acting like a tomboy too much. I practice, archery, karate, sword-fighting, lots of martial arts, and I also like riding horses. I'm not going to change my personality just because others have different opinions to what a woman should act like (if people are too dumb to appreciate martial talent just because it's coming from a female, then it's their loss, not mine), but I'm just curious to know what you think.

    Thanks.

  • Ok, here's my perfect Hunger Games cast. Add yours, give improvements, comment, whatever!?

Here is who I consider the perfect Hunger Games cast. I chose these people based on their appearance, age and experience. Tell me what you think, be free to add your own changes. I'm actually lost on a few of the characters, so help me out there, if you can:

    -Katniss Everdeen: ???

-Peeta Mellark: Alex Pettyfer OR Logan Lerman (I chose them because they fit both character and appearance, it would be awesome if either of them actually landed the role)

    -Gale Hawthorne: Ben Barnes

    -Primrose Everdeen: Elle Fanning

    -Mrs. Everdeen: ???

    -Rue: Maddison Pettis

    -Haymitch Abernathy: Johnny Depp

    -Effie Trinket: Kristen Chenoweth

    -Cinna: Orlando Bloom

    -Glimmer: Taylor Swift

-Cato: Tom Felton (I know this is probably the wierdest thing in the world, but I can just imagine him playing Cato, he's perfect for the part, he just needs to put on about fifteen kilograms of muscle, and if Taylor Lautner could do that, then why not him?)

    -Foxface: Bonnie Wright

-Clove: Missy Peregrym (I know she's, like, ten years too old, but it's small role and a bit of make-up will hide her real age, she would be perfect for the character, though)

    -Thresh: ???

All other characters are pretty small, but feel free to add them in. I know I've missed out on a fair few people, like Caesar Flickerman, the Avox girl etc. but they're not major roles. If there are missing pieces of the puzzle, it's because there are just too many choices, or not enough. Please help me try to fill in the blanks. Especially for Katniss.

And while you're at it, tell me who your favourite Hunger Games character is, and why you like them. No one from Catching Fire please (don't want to spoil it for the people who are reading).

  • What kind of personality do you think a woman/girl should have?

See I'm female, but everyone keeps telling me that I'm rather masculine in taste, style and interests. I was just wondering what you thought a feminine personality should be like. I'll tell you what my personality is like after I choose a "Best Answer"

  • Hey does anyone know where I can get the maximum daily temperatures for April for a place in Victoria?

I have a Maths project that I really have to finish, but I forgot to take down some data from my teacher. So I now need all the daily maximum temperatures for a place in Victoria called Horsham that we're supposed to be learning about for some sustainability project, too. I come from Melbourne, by the way, in a really strict school, so any help (as fast as possible) would be appreciated.

The month I need the temperatures for is April. If you could provide the web address, that would be great.

  • What happens in the third book of the Hunger Games Trilogy?

Anybody have any theories? I would really love to know.

I personally think that Peeta and Katniss will end up together. Gale is either going to end up dead or with Madge, the mayor's daughter. Finnick and Annie will live happily ever after, but Haymitch and Johanna will die. Plutarch Heveansbee turns out to be a traitor and Cinna will be released. The capital will be overthrown and President Snow will be killed.

Anyone have anything to add to that? Plase, no rude comments.
