4 AnswersFishing1 decade agoQuestions about applying to Swiss universities...?
I am applying to the University of Basel for the fall (as a foreign student currently attending university in the USA), and am unsure what to write for one of the application sections.
It asks for 'Bereits Abgelegte Examina (Zwischen-/Schlussprüfungen),' but I don't know what exams these are referring to, exactly. Are these University exit exams, or something similar that are only taken in Europe? Should I leave this section blank...?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

1 AnswerFIFA World Cup (TM)1 decade agoWhat are the odds of pregnancy?
While my girlfriend and I were having sex last night, the condom broke. She is due to have her period within the next 2 or 3 days, but just to be on the safe side, she also took emergency contraceptive (Plan B) about 16 hours after sex.
What are the odds that, despite everything else, she would still get pregnant?

Any help would be appreciated with this problem:
"Consider the hydrogen atom, which has an atomic radius of 37 picometers. Hydrogen has a single electron in the 1s (n=1, l=0) orbital. If we consider the electron as a standing wave with the nucleus as its center, use simple geometric considerations to calculate the wavelength of the 1s electron."

1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoCan color cease to exist in the absence of visible light?
We were talking about light in chemistry today, and how the visible light that is reflected off of an object is the color that is detected by the human eye.
So, what do you think? If I put my red shirt in a completely sealed closet, does it cease to be red because there's no light reflecting off of it? I can't decide.
3 AnswersOther - Science1 decade agoHow much would these repairs cost at a shop on my Saab 900s?
I have a 1986 Saab 900S and need to replace the flasher relay and brake light switch. These are both cheap parts (under $15 each), and I'm wondering how much it would likely cost to get it fixed at a shop.
Any ideas?

5 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoWhat time can I realistically expect to run in track?
As a high school senior, I ran 2:02.5 800m, 52.5 400m, and 4:52 1600m. As a college freshman, I'm running higher mileage, and plan to train throughout the winter (something I did not do before).
As a junior, I dropped about 4 seconds on my 400 time, and another 4 on my 800.
What times do you think I could realistically reach this spring as a college freshman?
3 AnswersRunning1 decade agoWhat's your best math joke?
I like:
An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first one goes up to the bar and orders a drink. The second one goes up and orders half a drink. The third orders 1/4 drink. The fourth orders 1/8 drink, and so on. The bartender, a little overwhelmed, asks the mathematicians, "Hey, guys, are you sure you want to do this? Isn't that a bit much?" to which the mathematicians reply, "Oh, don't worry, we know our limits."
