  • Finding the roots of y= x^4 ?

I am studying how to find the area enclosed by a curve in Integration.

A question had asked, "Find the area enclosed between the curve y= x^4, the x-axis and the lines x= -1 and x=1

How do you find the roots of the x^4, when there are no numbers after it (e.g. y= x^3-1 becomes x= 3 square root 1)?

  • Help choosing Dog Names?

Hi, in a couple of weeks I am getting a male red and white Border Collie.

Being me, I have started to think about potential names. I'm not just going to name him before we get to know his personality, but narrowing it down will help.

After a lengthy process of elimination, the following is a list of remaining potential names:

    - Sunny

    - Billy

    - Joey

    - Scout

    - Harry

    - Hachi

    - Fluke

    - Apollo

    - Toby

    - Baxter

Family favourites seem to be between Sunny, Toby and Fluke.

Whats your pick? Any additional names that you find unique or suiting? Any hints or tricks?

    Thanks for your help :)

  • My mouse had babies, and I don't know what to do!?

    Hi,

My female mouse, Domino has had babies. A while ago and Wild Mouse was in and out of the cage, we guess he is the father.

I came home from school and there was 4 babies in the cage. There is Domino, and another female mouse named Nutmeg. I don't know what to do, how warm they should be, how much paper then need, should I take Nutmeg out? And it seems like Domino is stepping on the babies. How do I know if she is feeding them?

    Thanks,

    Sam

  • Controling friend problem...?

    Hey Guys.

Right, I have this friend. In the group, there is myself, her and two other girls. We are currently in year 9, and in year 7&8 she suffered from annorexia. She was in hospital and recovery clinics, and now is apparently "recovered". But shes really obsessed with food still. She will watch my friends and I, too assure we are eating. She will bring food for us to eat. She will want us to stop excersizing, even the slightest bit. She won't even want us getting up to grab the textbooks. Its reallly crazy, and we don't know what to do....

Has anyone else been in this situation? What do we do? We are affraid that if we confront her, she will be really sad and down. Sometiems she just sits there and cries. We are at the end of a rope, we have nowhere to go. Please help

  • Need help with my Anorexic friend!

    Hey

Last year, my friend became anorexic. She and I were in year 8. For a while, nobody knew until she fainted at Netball training. She went to Hospital, been to Doctors and been to recovery clinics.

For a while, it seemed everything was better. But latly, she has been incresingly more obsessed about food. not just the food that she eats, but the food that my two other friends and I eat.

She will watch what we eat, and ensure that we eat it all. She forces us to eat food even though we are full. If we refuse, the will become extreamly sad and sometimes even cry. I also love excersizing, but she gets upset when I do. She also uses any exucse to excersize.

Latly, we know something NEEDS to be done. So we have decided to refuse food that she offers us. When she tell us to eat (And we already have, to our full) we would refuse. She has been crying and gotten frustrated with us.

So, my question to YOU is:

How do we help her? Is there any other way we can stop her doing this behaviour? We are not doing it for ourselfves, but for her. Were really worried about her. Please help.

  • Dog Skin problem?

    Hey

I own a 8 year old Terrier mix named Scruff. Scruff has been chewing on his back for quite some time now. He twists around, and knaws on his rump (A little higher then the base of the tail). He chews ALOT! There is sometimes blood, and the hair around the chewing area is thinning. He hasn't got any noticable pain around the area. We have been putting Disinfectant on it, to help with the scabs.

Please help! What could this be, and how do I fix it? (Yes, I can go to the Vets but something else to help him befour that)

  • Is a Cat the Right Pet for Me?

    Hi.

I am 15, currently in year 9. I am thinking about a pet cat. It would live in my room. Just wondering how much comitment is neccesary to maintain a good cat? How much playtime to they need? Are they good to sit on your lap when you do homework, and pet when reading a book? Are they good with being left at home when i ma at school?

If any breeds sound the best for my situation, please mention them. I like short hired, sleek breeds, or semi-long haired breeds.

  • Rats or Mice...?

    Hi,

For my science project, i am doing an experiment on rats or mice. Lets say i do it on rats for now. I get 3 rats, and put them in 3 differant cages. I feed Rat #1 normal Rat food, and give him normal excersize. I give Rat #2 a High Fat diet, and give him loads of toys, a wheel ect. Rat #3 is feed a high energy food, and is in a plain cage, nothing else whatsoever. I note behaviours each day, and weigh them every 4 days.

I have cheaked with both my local vet, and my science teacher, and it is NOT animal cruelty. My vet is really keen to see the results (And i am happy she is, cause i want to be a vet). Should I use Mice or Rats???

Rats are intelligent, and are more like humans... But they are expensive, and i have never owned one befoure. Mice are cheap, and i already own 2 (Which are in a massive cage, big enough to house 10 mice comfortably).

    Any help will be apresheated!
